We started the conversation in our book, Why Shrink-Wrap a Cucumber?, aimed at helping designers and manufacturers get a handle on the challenges they will encounter in producing Greener packaging. But environmental packaging is a moving target. Constant advances in materials development, recycling, waste handling and legislation reflect the urgent need to control our addiction to packaging. These all help, but it is easy to get into a complacent ‘recycle everything’ mindset which tends to be used as a get out of jail free card, rather than considering ways to reduce or reuse packaging.
